Detroit’s 6-5 shootout win in Buffalo was a welcome boost. Still, there are people who can complain out of both sides of their mouth. Queue the “it means nothing, the team should tank” from the same fans who desperately wanted a win. The logic? Well, now they won’t make any changes at all.
Let’s let the win be a win. Does that change anything about what the group needs to do? No. It’s a win and it took players giving a crap and getting in the muck to do it. That’s worth something. Sorry if the word crap is offensive. I have a crap ton of regret if so.
B.L.E. Talked about a comment made by Duff that the team is addicted to veterans. First, we’ve lived with that for a LOOOOONG time. Babcock’s “tie goes to the vet” was infamously awful. I don’t think this team is addicted to vets. I think they’re saddled with some God awful contracts for sure. The thought of “let the kids play no matter what” causes an issue. If I’m not mistaken, two of the youngest defenseman on the team are the top pairing. Lucas Raymond is a top line Winger. Kasper has been getting 2nd line minutes. Berggren and Veleno aren’t kids and have been given looks in the top 6 and not done well. To be fair, there isn’t really a top 6. Maybe a top 3.5 with a bottom 8.5 backing it up.
Unfortunately, as good as some players look in the AHL it would serve them better to stay there right now. I’d like to see Lombardi come up, Danielson maybe by the last 30. It was good to see Cossa in net, it’s going to take reps for him to be an NHL regular and I think he’ll get them. This isn’t a healthy atmosphere and it does wear on people mentally. The garbage contracts that were supposed to help with the transition aren’t and it stinks. That doesn’t mean I’m opposed to be creative.
Alex Nylander is on waivers from Toronto. Edmonton picked up former Wings pick Regula off the wire and if Nylander made it as far as to the Wings claim, it would be interesting to see if they take a look. His 775k salary is easily covered and it’s a sink or swim or back to waivers play.
Alex is 26, has been in bad situations and probably calloused enough mentally not to be damaged. Of Detroit’s prospects one that I think could/should have played on the roster is Sandin-Pellikka and that obviously didn’t happen. Grand Rapids is a great environment right now. Detroit has now discernable system that doesn’t involve the power play. Some improved recent metrics on the PK, but still a lot of broken and disjointed transition. That’s a lack of leadership combined with a lack of talent. You can drastically alter leadership in 1 move. (Opinion). The talent is more of a “prep day before a colonoscopy” affair. If you haven’t had one, get back to me once you have. If you have one coming up, install a TV in your restroom. It’s not worth leaving.
So, I look forward to your thoughts. Is someone angry that a win could alter the desperate need for something to change? What about a string of wins? Off topic, can Kane get is groove back after this last bit of time off? Let me know as the team gets ready to face another fan base that has been asking for some changes in the Flyers tomorrow.
