Sometimes it still catches me off guard when Edvinsson jumps into the offense. He skates well, he’s just huge. The 6’6” Dman netted the OT winner and the clip above seems to show Larkin collecting the puck. Possibly for the mantle back home in Sweden?

Detroit had a better start outshooting the Penguins in the early goings but sure enough by the end of the period it was about equal. Detroit scored 2 goals in 5 minutes and Pittsburgh matched them both. This was beginning to feel a little too familliar.

Cam Talbot continues to be a pleasant surprise for a team that really needs some defensive help and contributions from more players in the scoring department. This ended in the win column but could easily have gone the other way. Celebrate the win, but many (myself included) hope that Yzerman is at least kicking some tires. This may be the group that ends the season (multiple meanings) but a boost in a 2nd pairing Dman or scoring winger would be a welcome add.

Let me know your thoughts and how you think the year is going to play out. Will there be any changes, or is this the crew?

1st Period goals:

No goals

Shots: 12-9 DET
Score: 0-0

2nd Period goals:

1 minute into the second JB finally breaks through with his first of the year and ends the 0-0 stalemate. A cross ice pass from Tarasenko found JB on the half wall and a snap shot put him on the board. 1-0 DET

4 minutes later Kane scores on the power play. Larkin caught a puck that went airborn from Raymond, threw it down and from the left faceoff dot found a wide open Kane on the right side who snapped a puck far side. 2-0 DET

Penguins get one back 2-1

Penguins tied it up 2-2

Shots: 23-22 DET
Score: 2-2

3rd Period goals:

No goals

Shots: 33-30 PITT
Score: 2-2

Overtime:
An earlier puck to the hand didn’t get in the way of Edvinsson being the OT hero 1:30 into the extra period. Kane passed the puck off to Debrincat who skated down to the right side of the net and passed to Edvinsson as he went straight in for the goal. 3-2

Shots: 34-31 PITT
Score: 3-2 DET
