In an article from the Detroit News that showed Seider ranked at 20 amongst current NHL defensemen and Larkin at 15, an interesting bit from NHL pundits was added. Under the category of, “defensemen entering the league” it was noted of Edvinsson:

The NHL Network also asked, "Who are the best defensemen in the NHL entering the 2024-25 season?"
Detroit's Simon Edvinsson was ranked among the top candidates.
"Keep an eye on Edvinsson, the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. For most of the past two seasons, he has been hiding in the American Hockey League, where the Red Wings have had him developing with Grand Rapids. He has played 25 NHL games and shown only flashes of his talent at the highest level. But he's 21. He has size (6-foot-6, 209 pounds) and skill, and if he puts it together, he could be at least a little like Victor Hedman."

A total of 6 Dmen were mentioned including Owen Power, Brock Faber, Thomas Harley, Luke Hughes and Scott Morrow. In his draft year, one of the labels for “Eddy” was a “mini Victor Hedman”. Still high praise, and there was a brief rumor that Jim Nill had the Swedish Dman listed as his top Dman in the draft. A pleasant surprise following the draft saw Edvinsson grow an additional 2 inches. The left shot dman saw a bit of an extended look in Detroit last year. The obvious concern is linemate and adjusting to a full season of NHL play. Still, for a big defender he skates well and has shown glimpses of learning to make the safe and simple play defensively.

At this point, just a brief note on DirecTV shutting down all of Disney owned channels including ESPN. This directly mirrors the Charter dispute. I’ve avoided talking about it because it seemed like there would be a solution in place. This deadline didn’t sneak up on them. The U.S. Open was on when the screen went to an error message. 11 million customers are now missing college football, the PGA and some baseball. If this looks like it will stretch out I’ll throw more detail in behind the scenes “stuff”.

More than anything, this is the 3rd shutdown we’ve seen this past year: Charter and Disney, Comcast and Bally, now this. ESPN continues to prepare to launch their stand alone streaming service in 2025. It’s difficult to see this affecting the NHL except that it’s one more instance of some instability in broadcasting. As I said before, have a streaming backup plan and look into safe and legal VPN options. It’s worth the glimpse.
