In a recent post I examined some buyout candidates who likes leftovers? Without a follow up from Adam Fox, I’ve decided to go rogue and try to cherry pick a bit. St Louis added to an already deep defensive group when they acquired Justin Faulk this past year and extended him. A 7 year extension at 6.5 million per that kicks in next year seemed a bit much, but this group wanted a genuine shot at back to back cups. You can see that the Blues cap situation is a bit precarious, and a stagnated ceiling will complicate things. On top of it all, their Captain needs a new deal. cap friendly

And so, “what if”? At 28, Faulk brings a lot to the table. The problem, of course, is that he wants a real shot at the cup. And so, “If” St Louis were to repeat as champs and “If” they had to make a hard decision to buyout this contract, this is a player I’d love to see in Detroit. Carolina’s embarrassment of blue line riches made letting this coveted D man go with plenty still in the cupboard. A friend of mind who is a Chicago fan was a bit “wide eyed” at the acquisition as it seemed to make St Louis even stronger defensively with another scoring option on special teams. But, a bizarre Corona shortened season has turned everything upside down. At one point, it seemed possible for another Bruins vs St Louis showdown as the two teams were rolling. Now, the playoffs are going to be wide open. Teams that start well and fall off later (Toronto) may find their early season legs and do some opening round damage. Teams that started poorly (Tampa) could face those same hiccups again.

It’s all speculation. But, if there were a world where Faulk was bought out and willing to come to Motown, it would be a nice addition. So, cherry pick for yourself. Bobrovsky? Who has the skill set and an unfriendly contract that you’d like to see come to Detroit? Have fun with it.
