Cholowski has coffee with Carly and we get a little insight into the quiet former first round pick. Some of you aren’t confident that he’s going to develop into a full time NHLer, and it’s not without merit. The deal that made room for Frans Nielsen by moving Datsyuk’s contract but lost Jakob Chycrun is not a highlight of this rebuild.

So, like me, you’re probably counting down to June 2nd. More than a few of you are piqued with interest as Boston has a 3-1 series lead over Washington. Yzerman’s blockbuster looks to be getting a higher first round pick than originally thought. And, to his credit, the “Captain” is still working.

We’ve seen prospects sign their ELCs (as well as some confirmation that one doesn’t seem inclined to do so). The GM has been fairly transparent about his process right now. He’s calling around to teams not currently playing and when the first round is over, he’ll be calling the newly eliminated teams as well. The net for potential deals has been cast wide.

Buffalo is going to be making deals, not much question there. There are “rumors” that Vancouver is going to be busy. They are looking at buyouts, and some players have voiced displeasure about their situations. Los Angelos’s Drew Doughty has made a public request of his GM to bring in some talent. Doughty wants the team to be competitive and they have the cap space to do it. Teams are up against the cap (or way over it for next year) and negotiations are going to come to a head as we enter into the draft. Toronto, Tampa Bay, Washington and others are going to have to do some rearranging (or miraculously arrange for year long IR again).

So, it’s your turn to make some predictions again. Give me a team you believe will be conducting business with Detroit. Steve Yzerman has pegged age 26 (and younger) as about the ideal age of bringing someone in with term. He’s stated that he isn’t interested in trading picks or prospects for someone who will be gone in 3 or 4 seasons. With a decent first round pick from Washington, is there a young player that could be brought in? Let me know your deals, we’ll see how it measures up once the smoke clears.
