In the pregame report there was some hesitation on what to expect from Detroit in game 2 with only one full non game-day practice under the new coach. The hope was a more attentive team, not a 4 game first period that carried to a win.

The first period was a caffeine injected ride for the team, and the fans were grateful for it. 2 goals for Debrincat, one for Kane, one for Raymond and Kane hits 1300 points. A lot of good things going on. As the game wore on, it was clear that Lyon was going to get busier.

The team came out and gave all they had to start things off. That was refreshing. It’s clear they have not got the lungs/legs they need to at this point in the season. They almost need to do a mid season training camp and get everything on track. The cardio, the strength etc. Still, the winged wheel will be facing outward before the next game. That is something worth looking forward to.

It was like watching players wake up. There were other opportunities, but the first period showed the best of what the team could bring. Raymond’s goal with patience and a slick move was a lot of fun to watch. Seider’s spinning assist on what ended up being Debrincat’s first of the game will be on his personal reel. Now it comes down to playing a full game and making sure you have enough in the tank to work for 60 minutes.

Let me know your thoughts, it was a fun watch and a different look for the team. Was this a “bump” with a new coach, a combination of good bounces in the first and timely saves in the 2nd and third period? Either way, a refreshing first but still a long road ahead.

After some give and go with Gus and Raymond, at 6:44 on the power play Kane ripped a far side shot top corner. 2-0 Detroit

Ovechkin got 1 in at 12:04. Really nice play to jump on the puck as he is now 24 behind Gretzky.
