30 seconds left. 30 seconds left in the 3rd period with the goalie pulled and Detroit being badly outshot 34-19. Somehow, the team had a 1 goal lead but on shot number 35 St. Louis tied it up. The period dwindled and Detroit fans knew that Cam Talbot had given them 1 point on a Herculean effort that the offense could complement with scoring.
If this were a report in the St. Louis blog, it would be that the team outworked and outplayed and stayed in it with a payoff in overtime. Instead, it’s the small comfort that instead of nothing, Detroit skates away with 1 point that was handed to them by a goalie that did everything but score. A .946 sv% stopping 35 of 37 should be enough for the team to grab 2. The group just couldn’t find it.
With a Montreal loss, Detroit is still 4 points out but with a big Columbus win the Rangers and Blues Jackets are just 2 points out. The clock is ticking, and Detroit isn’t finding the “next gear” they need. To give credit where it’s due, Berggren’s pass to find Compher for Detroit’s lone tally was a beauty.
Let me know your thoughts. Do you take the point, be glad it’s not a goose egg and move on or did the team miss out on a huge opportunity that Talbot handed them? If you missed it,
Trey Augustine is going back to MSU for a 3rd year. This reshuffles a bit of where it looked like the goal tending situation would be for next season and it’s an area that desperately needs an injection (along with the blue line).

At 5:13 JT Compher opened the scoring with his 9th of the season. The puck made a full trip around the O zone. After going from left to right across the blue line, the puck was moved to Tarasenko who found Berggren at the right side of the net double covered. JB made a nice pass behind the defenders over to Compher who was wide open and tapped it in for the game’s opening tally. 1-0 DET
