Red Wings coach McLellan puts Soderblom in seeking to stop skid

Detroit’s losses in Tampa and Dallas did more than leave a sour taste in Coach McLellan’s mouth, it became the impetus for something many of you want to see more of. Give someone else an opportunity. In this case, it’s the walking redwood Elmer Soderblom who has shown a lot more in his play and physicality in Grand Rapids this season.

Veleno will be wearing his game day suit for the watch and the big man will, hopefully, make a case to put a veteran (not Joe) on the waiver train that goes down 96. Just as coach McLellan had a quick and noticeable impact on the team, Dan Watson has been an even bigger upgrade in his position in Grand Rapids. There are now 2 coaches who will let you know if you’re phoning it in and that’s a net positive.

Detroit needs to be the type of “focused angry” that leads to a solid game and not a conga line to the penalty box. Athletes who can focus a bad run into a hard earned win (or at least winning effort) are my favorite kind of pro. Level up, but be as disciplined as humanly possible.

Apologies for the late entry on a game day. Some of you (most of you by now) know that I have a closed head injury and migraines are trigger by rain/snow and a drop it temp. Is was -5 early this morning so, beauty.

Let me know your thoughts, what Elmer can do to try and push someone off the bottom 6, and what you hope to see from the team in general. It’s been a gift to have a coach willing to call things out and own problems with a passion about fixing them.

For anyone interested, yesterday part 3 of a series on the new NCAA Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) was posted on Strings’nPucks. If hockey is going to see even a tithe of what football just saw, things are about to be insane. I’m embedding the video. IF you can, please like and subscribe. Growing the channel helps to solidify a spot in the ever changing landscape. I love this group, this blog and want to keep interacting with everyone in as many ways as possible!
