Mitch Marner’s natural hat trick was impressive. Tavares made a beautiful play in a between the legs back pass that exposed what the defense has done all year. Edvinsson had no idea that Marner was right behind him and ready to go. In just over 24 hours, McLellan got two different tours. One of the new facility, and one of how badly this team is functioning.
For just over 10 minutes in the 3rd Detroit showed signs of life and managed to get away from being shut out. In this particular case, I don’t know if the new coach will address it tonight or say, “we have a lot to look at tomorrow”. The team knows they got a coach fired, and they know they were embarrassed (again).
This is one where it is hard to find the words. You could peel the paint, or just shake your head and let it sink it with the room. Honestly, it seemed like it could be a night where jerseys were thrown over the glass like teddy bears at an AHL game.
Raymond look relieved to score. Edvinsson has a nice shot and can skate. He’s also out of position in the D zone far too many times. I try to balance that with this being his opening full season (too many games to be a rookie). Will make good plays but also those mistakes that hopefully help you become a better defenseman if you actively look to minimize them.
This isn’t a time to “shill” for a team. Things are broken in Detroit. It’s an opportunity for the players to reset but they need so many fixes. The D, the PK and even strength play in every zone. Tomorrow should be a hard skate and begin reprogramming the system. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
