For the first time after the return from the 4 nations break, Detroit did not forfeit a lead and head to overtime. Instead, the team found themselves down 2-0 after the first, tied 2-2 after the second, and Simon Edvinsson’s 2nd tally of the game gave the team a 3-2 regulation win. It’s going to sound redundant but it will feel like every game is a must win down the stretch.

With about 32 seconds left, when Minnesota pulled their goalie, it felt like the same ending was inevitable. However, Detroit held tight and got a regulation win getting 3 of 4 points in the series with Minnesota and 5 of the possible 6 since returning. Tarasenko opened the scoring on what looked like the last second of the power play with a nice “Brett Hull” drop to the knee shot at the side of the net.

For Edvinsson, the big Dman looks more and more comfortable and both goals saw nice passes find the big man opening a slapshot that went straight in, the second with plenty of pipe ringing. It was a relatively low shooting affair at 40 total shots between the 2 teams and Detroit only getting 16 of those. Still, the team grabbed a regulation win and continues to roll under Todd McLellan.

As we know that Copp is now out for the year, let me know your thoughts on what you’re seeing and how much you want to tinker with the chemistry as Detroit looks to have the ability to have plenty of cap space at the deadline. Congratulations to Edvinsson for his 2 goal night and we’ll see if the team can keep adding points to the standings.

1st Period goals:

MN opened the scoring at 7:17 on the power play. 1-0 MN

The Wild doubled up at 11:11. 2-0 MN

Shots: 9-7 DET
Score: 2-0 MN

2nd Period goals:

At 10:12 Detroit finally got on the board with one second left on the power play as Tarasenko got his 8th of the year. Gustafsson skated the puck down and toward the left and made a no look pass to Tarasenko who had a wide open net. NHL box score not calling it a ppg, but says Detroit is 1 for 2. 2-1 MN

3 minutes later Edvinsson tied it up with his 6th of the year. Debrincat had the puck at the half wall and passed it up toward the blue line as the big Dman skated in and sent a shot straight in. 2-2

Shots: 14-13 MN
Score: 2-2

3rd Period goals:

At 11:34 Edvinsson gave Detroit the lead getting his second of the night and 7th of the year. Soderblom skated the puck into the O zone all the way to the net, found Johansson who sent it to Edvinsson for a hard slap shot from just above the faceoff circle. 3-2 DET

Shots: 24-16 MN
Score: 3-2 DET
