A quick bit of ledger news was released today as Kasper and Soderblom were “reassigned” to Detroit. In the bizarre world of cap recapture etc the two were assigned to Grand Rapids during the 4 nations. This likely means practices are getting up and running.

If you can, take a Quick Look at the video for today. In trying to grow the youtube side, I’d like to have the chance to do some livestreams and interactions. There are more interviews in the works and the goal compilations will keep coming. If you can and haven’t, “like” and subscribe to the video and that goes a long way to getting it suggested to new viewers.

Here’s a link to Detroit’s draft history. There are names we continue to go back and forth about, but there are two in particular I hope to see make the move to American ice. Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Trey Augustine. ASP has signed his entry level agreement, but as of now Trey is still unable to do so as long as he stays in school. With the CHL transfer agreement, it is a sincere hope that the league finds a compromise to ward off tampering that’s anywhere near what was seen during football season in the NCAA.

In terms of call ups, it may be the blue line that has me most intrigued. Tuomisto seems to be having a solid go in Grand Rapids and Wallinder’s mobility, edge work and passing are getting some praise. That leads to the final thought of the day, the trade deadline.

Detroit is still in the awkward spot where the most valuable assets are young players in or close to playing in the NHL along with draft picks. Neither of these are something the team should be hasty about moving unless a prospect (or even upcoming UFA) expresses a clear desire to move on (and please don’t leak it). If the team is still in the mix at the deadline but hear from Lyon that he’s going to hit the market, that may bring some solid return for a goalie on a sub 1 million dollar deal.

As always, let me know your thoughts as we get ready to reboot the NHL and USA/Canada head toward round two with injuries starting to play a part for team USA.
