The game started to have a similar feel. Wings getting shots, but Buffalo gets on the board first. Then Detroit scores 3 straight tallies, but with less than a minute left in the first, Buffalo gets back within 1. Detroit got back to a 2 goal lead but Buffalo got back within one at the end of the period. Then, period 3.
3 tallies from Detroit took them to a 7-3 lead and with about 3:09 left there were 5 fights on the ice. Sabres frustrated, Wings full of energy and 9 players ejected. This does not feel like 2025.
It was nice to see teammates sticking up for each other, still surprising to see how smooth Edvinsson can skate and how physical Seider can get. Rasmussen looked a lot more like his old self and Kane was just on fire on his way to a 5 point game. Lots to like, and a good night to enjoy a win. As always, let me know your thoughts in the comments.
1st Period goals:
Buffalo opened the scoring at 7:38 after a terrible line change by Detroit opened up the neutral zone. 1-0 BUF
At 11:36 Detroit ties it up. Kane gets the puck to Edvinsson who drives toward the net and gets a deflection from Kasper. 1-1
At 15:40 Debrincat sped up the ice after getting a pass from Kane, skates along the left side half wall, cuts to the middle then shoots back to the left. A beauty for his 30th of the season.
At 10:54 Larkin climbed out of the Buffalo bench (long story), went to the O zone, got a take away and gave it to Tarasenko. #11 wrapped around and shot the puck top corner. Play under review for goalie interference. The goal stands and Detroit goes to the power play. 4-2 DET
At 5:39 Kasper got his 2nd of the night as Debrincat grabbed a puck the Sabres turned over in front of the net and found Marco skating in for a quick shot in. Kane got his 5th point of the night. 6-3 Detroit
At 14:31 Seider added to the lead with a power play tally. With some good puck movement, Larkin found Seider in the middle of the ice and the D man slapped in his 7th of the year. 7-3 DET
