you can read my pregame and see part I of a new video series on the NCAA and NIL as we approach the season where the new rules will hit the hockey world in some unexpected ways.

It’s hard to explain how different this Detroit seems to be in such a short amount of time. Not necessarily on the scoreboard but internally. Instead of a huge celly Kane almost looked to do a “sign of the cross” type celly. More than that, he’s smiling again.

Larkin is 3 goals away from 20, the defense is still adjusting to the diamond formation but its benefit is obvious. Shut down lanes and open the goalie’s line of sight. 5 straight wins in McLellan’s 6 game tenure is nothing to sneeze at. Even the announcers and analysts seem taken aback by what they’re seeing.

There’s a clear reality that changes need to be made moving forward, and with 3 newly medaled prospects along with ASP now twice named defenseman of the WJC U20 some changes will happen internally. Still, coach McLellan has found a way to get another gear out of the group.

For those of you watching, is there anything that stands out and looks like it will be in play for the group moving forward? As ridiculous as it sounds, it’s fun to be on the winning side of the ledger lately. The fans that are at the games are having a great time and the players seem to be enjoying what’s going on. Tomorrow, you can get some curly fries and watch the highlights. Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Also, who has benefitted the most in the change? Berggren comes to mind, Veleno is gaining confidence Edvinsson is getting some more swagger etc. as always, thanks for stopping by!

1st Period goals:
Larkin continues to add to his goal totals after Raymond’s “boost” the other night on deferring an empty net to his captain. This time, at 8:30 on the power play, Raymond was near the top of the zone, found Debrincat next to the net and “the cat” got the puck to the captain who opened the scoring. 1-0 DET

Shots: 14-10 DET
Score: 1-0 DET

2nd Period goals:

At 12:25 Ottawa tied it up just after their power play had expired.

With just about a minute left Ottawa gets the lead on a power play goal. 2-1 Ottawa

Shots: 22-22
Score: 2-1 OTT

3rd Period goals:

5 minutes in Joe Veleno tied up the score as he pounced on a rebound from Edvinsson. 2-2. Both of those players seem to have found more to their game.

Shots: 33-30 OTT
Score: 2-2

Overtime:

Patrick Kane has found another renewal with the current changes and it couldn’t come at a better time. The future Hall of Famer scored the game winning goal on the power play 2:21 into OT. The faceoff in the right circle went straight back to Kane who skated to the middle and snapped the goal home. 4-3 DET

Shots: 33-33
Score: 3-2 DET
