Shesterkin was outstanding, but Detroit’s power play is garbage. Compher needs to be moved off of the top unit. This was going to be a long shot to win, but Detroit’s man advantage isn’t, well, advantageous. The team looks lost.
On the plus side, Holl made a beautiful play for the primary assist on Detroit’s lone goal from Larkin. Edvinsson’s skating continues to belie the size of the Swedish Dman. He is part of the rush on a fairly regular basis.
There really isn’t much to say on this. The physicality didn’t come into play so a swap to bring Kasper up shouldn’t be out of the question. Get him on the 2nd line and on the power play. We’re 3 games in and if the goalie isn’t perfect the team can’t win. Brutal schedule? Absolutely. Something has to give.
Obviously the frustration on this one is still fresh. There were some really good chances, but on a goalie that confidently turned down 11m x 8 and will be nearing triple digits on his next deal. New York outclasses Detroit in every category. This one would have been better played with a sling and some smooth stones than with sticks and pucks.
Let me know what you’re seeing. The potential good of this brutal opening is that Detroit is driving the net hard (except on the power play). Take some heavy lumps and get motivated to play. As always, it’s the fans that make this work so please drop your thoughts in the comments as we prepare for another rough run with the Rangers.
