The St. Louis Blues are looking to shake up the D core but no trade clauses are going to complicate the issue. Without specifics, many people may look at the Krug contract. Losing Pietrangelo due to negotiations gone sour and signing Krug has not aged well. Changes will continue to be made and St. Louis seems to be a team that Yzerman talks to quite a bit.

In terms of waiving no trade clauses, it’s hard to see Detroit as the destination of players who want a shot at the cup. Still, it’s worth noting and feels more than likely that Yzerman is on the “call list” with the history between the two clubs.

In other news, Cap friendly has been a tool many of you along with myself have used. It helps understand not just cap space, but movement clauses, buyouts and allows fans and GMs alike to use tools to construct scenarios. It looks like that is going away on July 5th.

According to the release in the link above, Washington has purchased the site and will be shutting it down after the draft. Teams with access to the site were notified of the change. This isn’t the first salary cap website to shut down. There are GMs who don’t like all the information being public, and this time it is Washington stepping in to close shop.

As to the ‘why’?, that’s going to be speculation. I personally think that the LTIR abuse was getting to be a bigger and bigger issue and fans had a unique look at how the numbers had to be shuffled around for deals to be done. It gave an odd amount of accountability to teams who could be reminded of bad deals, limited options, etc. In truth this is a sad development. The fans had a voice they could back up with numbers. We’ll see what develops from here. Please share your thoughts and if you think the purchase and shut down of this website will bring any significant change to how details are released in terms of team business.
