The goaltender of the year added another Big 10 championship to his mantle. Not enough can be said as to how much excitement is floating around this prospect. Can’t get on an ELC fast enough at this point.
yesterday’s entry was a bit of a trying to get the solid commitment that Axel Sandin-Pellikka is heading to the US. Hours after publishing I received an email from one of the few people I would let hold my (very thin) wallet confirming that internally there’s an expectation for the right shot Dman to head over as soon as the post season ends. More on that in a bit.
Detroit heads to Utah with only one real option, and that’s to grab 2 points. The team is at the point where their fate will rely on the performance of multiple other teams ahead of them and they have to focus on making hay. The shame of it all is that there is a fundamental shift that the new coach brought to town. Unfortunately, when under pressure, bad habits creep back in. Right now the goalies have to be as close to perfect as possible and the power play has to click. The scoring depth isn’t there, so it continues to be on the top 6. There is a positive as it looks like Soderblom looks ready to go. He was actually finding some footing with the top line.
Beyond that, the funnel is getting some exciting injections. With feeling relatively confident that Axel Sandin-Pellikka is headed over, tweets regarding Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard’s commitment to head over, for some reason Neil Diamond’s “They’re coming to America” was ringing in my head. My step dad and mom loved the singer once known as “The Jewish Elvis”. Of course “Sweet Caroline” is a hockey staple, but as a kid he did have an impact in the 80s with the aforementioned hit. Of course we’re waiting on Buchelnikov news, the team just signed a player out of the Czech league and after a solid season (and a fun interview) it’s a personal hope to see Alex Cotton get a look in GR or even Toledo.
Combine that with Trey Augustine (hopefully) and Cossa’s continued development, Lombardi, Mazur, Tuomisto, Wallinder there is a lot to like. While it looks like Detroit is falling short, Grand Rapids may get a serious injection of talent. ASP in particular moves the needle for offense. Let me know your thoughts on what’s coming down the pipe and what you hope to see against Utah.
