A new Hockey League is set to have its inaugural season this fall. Major League Hockey is a 3 on 3 format and is looking to be a competitor.
Not a ton known. Here are the details that have been spelled out:

🔥 Players from Pro, Junior and College ranks
Known as Major League Hockey, This is an interesting development. It sounds like Jeremy Roenick may be involved. There is already a basketball league with the 3 on 3 format owned in part by Ice Cube.
While there is excitement being reported, here are the issue I can foresee:
They will be competing in season with the NHL. This gives players who can’t secure a gig a place to play in North America, but the NHL has to be somewhat “cooperative” in terms of transfer agreement.
Caitlin Clark, whose final year at Iowa saw women’s March finals outdraw men’s (14m for women, 9M for march madness) was offered 5 million to play in the basketball version but chose to go to the WNBA.
This is likely a league that will have retired or unsecured talent. No clue as to where broadcasts will come from, and if current NHL sponsors will get pushback from the league about a potential conflict of interest.
Whether this goes well or not, the NHL is not likely happy to hear about the development. I thank my good friend for sending this my way. Hockey is fairly low on the sports totem pole in season, no idea is this will dilute the fan base or not. Give me your thoughts and how you think the NHL and its clubs will react.
*in 2022 ESPN announced a 3 on 3 hockey league but the newest information seems to signal that they’re going for a fall opening.
