First, the video above is going to be part of a new series for Strings’nPucks called RWR, the “Red Wings Report”. That way subs can know for certain the videos go along with the blogging here at hockeybuzz for the Detroit Red Wings. Not just game coverage, but interviews and some other hockey news for the team!
Detroit’s 5-2 win over the Panthers got some good discussion rolling in the comments. Part of the back and forth was the impetus for the new channel series. It’s just a way to step back and say, “if Detroit were on the other side of this story, how would I write it?” Essentially, in wanting to grow in quality it feels important to tell the narrative, as best I can, in a way that reads for both teams.
Specifically for the Panthers, the Red Wings were outshot 43-20 but an insanely great power play and timely saves played a big part. If Detroit were on the other side of that, it feels like you could say the same thing. Wings outshoot opponent by more than 2 to 1 but special teams and goaltending carried the day.
There has been a visible change in the demeanor of the team, and efforts to reset after bad shifts or a game like San Jose where the team just didn’t seem to be on the right page. The confidence and communication are both a big improvement and we’ll see how it translates in back to back games vs. Tampa Bay and Dallas.
The Bolts are the top scoring in the league in terms of goals per game and Detroit will have to have solid goal tending and strong defensive posture. Getting 3 power play goals wouldn’t hurt either! The PK stood tall last game, killing all 3 short handed scenarios.
Excited to see how the team comes out, and will follow up with a post game report!
