3rd straight win, outshot 40 to 20, and the Wings grab a ‘W’. This felt like a string of power plays and New Jersey has that down pat. Talbot had way too much to do and the PK is brutal. The need for systematic and personnel changes feels obvious even after a 3rd straight win.

Glad to see Kane looking more confident, and Debrincat’s interception turned into a goal was a great look. Still, the team is being buried in pucks and winning on the backs of goalies being far too busy. The PK unit is just embarrassing right now and will have to do a lot to find some respectable numbers.

Always glad for a win, no one apologizes for goalies stepping up, but this team has got to find a way to control the play. Just in fairness, if this were the New Jersey write up it would have a bit in common with the Islanders write up a couple days ago, though at least the Wings hit 20 shots on goal.

Seeing some rough play enter into the equation at the end can be a good sign for the team coming together. The trend of being outshot and outplayed feels like playing with fire and doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it needs. With a rumor hitting that multiple teams are inquiring about Provorov (Utah seems to be the leading candidate) that seems to add to how many teams are already having conversations in a market that really isn’t doing much so early in the season.

As always, let me know your thoughts as Detroit now sits at 4-3 and Kane seems to be finding betting looks and more confidence.

1st Period Detroit goals:

New Jersey opened the scoring at 12:11 on the power play. 1-0 NJD

Detroit then scored twice in 25 seconds.
Copp got his first assist of the year as Copp intercepted the puck deep in the O zone near the left faceoff dot and found Fischer on the far side who then scored his first of the year. 1-1

About 20 seconds later Debrincat was able to intercept a puck at the Devil’s blue line and skated in snapping his 3rd of the season unassisted. 2-1 DET

Shots: 15-8 NJD
Score: 2-1 DET

2nd Period Detroit goals:

New Jersey tied up the score at 4:59 on the power play. 2-2

Shots: 29-14 NJD
Score: 2-2

3rd Period Detroit goals:

The teams seem to be trading power plays. Larkin restored the 1 goal lead at 9:46 with his 4th goal of the season. Kane was at the blue line (though not credited on box score) and sent the puck toward the net as Larkin got a stick on it. 3-2 DET

2 minutes later New Jersey tied it up, on a power play. 3-3

Another power play, another goal. This time Detroit scores at 16:28. Patrick Kane gets his 2nd of the season after scoring the lone goal against the Isles Tuesday. Kane skated the puck to in between the top of the faceoff circles and ripped home the game winner. 4-3 DET

Michael Rasmussen put a pin in it at 19:47 on an empty net with his first of the year. The big depth centerman plowed through and caused plenty of, um, hurt feelings in the process. Assist to Edvinsson

Shots: 41-20 NJD
Score: 5-3 DET
