The Red Wings have made a signing likely destined for Grand Rapids in
Eduards Tralmaks. The undrafted leading scorer for the Czech League spent 3 seasons in Providence from 2021 to 2023. It seems as though Detroit may be prepping for openings in Grand Rapids which may be a good sign for the fans looking to see forward motion from some of the prospects. We can take odds later, but a healthy Lombardi and a healthy Mazur would be at the top of a personal list.
As the team faces the Golden Knights
Simon Edvinsson is going to get some power play time. With 7 goals and 18 assists in his first full season with Detroit (16 games last season and 7 the season before) Coach McLellan noted that this is a solid opportunity for the left shot 6’6” Dman who has a good shot and a skill set that lends toward being able to quarterback a power play (see yesterday’s post, interview with McLellan).
A little inside ball (er, puck), on rare occasions I’ll get a note from other writers. Seider and Edvinsson have gotten the attention of other teams. For fan perspective, there’s an odd bit of polarization. I’ve gotten some sarcasm of Seider being “the chosen one” and Edvinsson as “too injury prone”. Some of you really like both defenders. In personal opinion, Edvinsson skates incredibly well, can use his edges and wrists “deceptively” to open space and certainly has what can be a very tippable straight shot. He can also jump into the play well down low. This opportunity has been opened by Gustafsson’s injury and possible end to the season.
With Sandin-Pellikka presumed (not confirmed) to make the North American shift, Tuomisto and Wallinder making strides forward and Buium likely getting really solid minutes in GR next season as he’s put up 2 goals and 20 assists this season, the Blue Line has reason for enthusiasm. Cossa and Augustine should excite fans for the goalie pipeline. Danielson is still putting it all together with 9 goals and 23 assists and has those glimpses of the ability to put the puck on a string and make plays in tight.
The season in Detroit went from disappointment to elation and has been a sink back to disappointment post break. There are things that show a team on the rise and players who are developing. The kids are not just grabbing spots, they’re grabbing good spots. Kasper, Raymond, Edvinsson, Seider as a top D for a bit now. As tough as the dip back down has been, there are a lot of good things still happening.
