Detroit was gifted Their first regulation win over Tampa Bay in a long, long time. It was still nerve wracking, and took 6 goals to feel comfortable. But, it was still a good feeling.

Greetings from the land of cardiac nightmare. I’m still recovering, and it’s not going well. Back to the cardiologist this week. I wanted to have a blog for you all to add your hockey savvy graffiti to as you enjoy the game. Carolina leads this series 2-1, and so round 4 sees a Detroit team that has been putting up more goals, including power play, and wants to win another one. This could be a bruiser.

If you enjoyed Rocky IV, you have to brace yourself knowing that Rocky’s brother in law pulled a move similar to Jack Johnson’s parents and signed away his entire estate while “Rock” fought for free in Russia. Oops. Sylvester Stallone tried to kill his creation in at least three of the sequels with the studio disallowing it. A gluten for punishment, Sly asked Dolph Lundgren to make contact with 3 body shots while shooting the final fight. After that shoot, Sly was rushed to the hospital. Dolph hit him so hard that his heart made contact with his rib cage. That’s how I feel today.

Rocky’s victory in that fight would lead to the destruction of the character (go to hell Tommy Gunn) and the near death of Stallone himself. That’s how today’s matchup feels like. Carolina has players that can, and will, punish you physically as well as on the scoreboard. A win today could be celebrated on IR. But, play on boys. Carolina is rounding the corner into a huge offseason. Svechnikov needs a raise from the stingiest owner in the NHL. Brind’amour needs an extension as well. The Hurricanes are a good team, but pretty much all roads lead to Tampa Bay in this division and I can’t see any team in this group 8 of that could take the Bolts in a 7 game series.

So, Carolina is looking for “novelty” right now. There’s open talk of bringing Eric Staal back for a feel good story. Marc Staal is getting some attention, and you wonder if the ‘Canes would like to see the three best (of four) Staal brothers share the ice under the same banner. On that note, Evgeni Svechnikov is also interesting. Dougie Hamilton demanded his brother Freddie be signed by Calgary. Freddie was waived and picked up by AZ, and Dougie was traded. Could ‘Canes management try to entice Andrei by brining his big brother into the fold? Svech could demand a high ticket and sit out very easily. He’s an impact player with no arbitration. It will be interesting to see how they maneuver this one.

Regardless, let me know what you hope to see on the ice. Mantha and Zadina are perking up. I love seeing defensemen chip in as well. Hopefully today’s tilt will show a solid effort. I’ll catch up with you all later. Time for some more meds and shut down. See you in the comments
