Karine Hains: Big Weekend for Women's Hockey in Montreal |

Since 1998, we’ve all been able to appreciate women’s hockey in the Olympics tournament. Fast forward 24 years later and the event is going strong, it's one of the most popular of them all and we’ve seen some memorable battles between Team USA and Team Canada. It’s time now for fans to be able to enjoy women’s hockey all year round and not just every year at the World’s Championships or every 4 years at the Olympics. For that to happen though, the ladies need a real professional league to play in, one that will allow them to make a living doing what they do best, playing hockey.
For now, the Professional Women Hockey Player Association (PWHPA) is putting on the Secret Dream Gap tour, a showcase in which some of the best female hockey players in the world compete to give fans a taste of what a real professional league could be like. This weekend, the tour stops in Montreal for the Quartexx Hockey showcase and takes the form of a 4-team mini tourney taking place at the Centre 21.02 in Montréal (formally known as the Auditorium the Verdun). Teams Bauer (Boston), Adidas (Minnesota), Banque Scotia (Calgary) and Harvey’s (Montreal) will treat fans to fast, physical and exciting play for the whole weekend.
Since it’s an Olympic year, the Olympians are not on the roster but 5 of them will be in attendance to meet fans and sign autographs: Ann-Renée Desbiens, Mélodie Daoust, Laura Stacey and Marie-Philip Poulin will be there on Saturday while Jill Saulnier and Sarah Nurse will be on hand Sunday. This is a date you do not want to miss. You can get your tickets here:
