As things currently stand, the Canadiens have got 4 goaltenders signed to NHL contract and all of them have got to go through waivers if they are sent down to Laval, this is not a good situation for the team. Considering how crowded the blue line is, keeping three goaltender on the roster wouldn't be a good idea, he would be taking up a spot which would be best used by a good young defenseman who's part of the rotation.

What's going to happen then? Well, Kent Hughes in his last media availability said that he told DeSmith that the plan wasn't to bury him in the minors. Samuel Montembeault was told by Hughes that DeSmith's arrival changed nothing to his own status on the team which leads me to believe that the Quebecer is here to stay. As for Cayden Primeau, he hasn't proven he can play in the NHL on a consistent basis and at 24 years old, he's still considered a rookie since he hasn't played 25 NHL games. If he was to be sent down, it would be surprising to see a team take a chance on him.

What about Jake Allen then? The veteran goaltender is on the first year of a two year deal with an AAV of $3.85 million. This morning, La Poche Bleue's Raphael Doucet wrote that a well informed source had told him that Allen was here to stay. Considering the cap hit on his contract, that's hardly surprising.

My money is still on DeSmith being moved sometimes before the start of the season, but time will tell if Hughes will manage to find a dancing partner...Given the fact that he found a way to rid himself of Mike Hoffman without retaining any salary, I wouldn't bet against him...the clock is ticking though and the season is fast approaching.
