Max Domi's Q & A

In a 20 minute session, Domi answered questions from the Montreal media for the Habs website yesterday. We all know the drill by now and unfortunately, pretty much all of these Q & A sessions are staring to sound the same since the situation is not evolving and the stalemate continues. Nevertheless, here is what caught my attention in this chat with Domi...

As we all know, Domi's contract is up this year and it's no surprise that a journalist asked him about his contractual situation. Domi said that he has had no discussions contract wise with the Canadiens so far but that it's understandable given everything else that is going on right now. He added that he loves playing with Montreal and that he hopes to do so for a long time. Don't go thinking that because there hasn't been contract talks yet it means that Domi will be out of here, after all, neither Gallagher or Danault who are eligible for contract extensions this summer have started negotiations yet. Furthermore, there is no rush when it comes to the upcoming RFA's contract as if worst comes to worst, the Habs can take him to arbitration. Of course, that wouldn't be ideal since that process is basically the team telling a player in detail why they deserve less money that they think they do but given the fact that his offensive production diminished this season, I wouldn't be surprised if it came to that.

Domi was also asked about his All In Challenge. If you've not seen it, it was essentially an auction to raise funds for those who are most vulnerable during the present crisis. What was he auctioning? A one of a kind experience which included:
- 2 tickets to Habs vs Leafs at the Bell Center - a game which will be watched alongside Domi's dad, Tie Domi;
- Flight to Montreal, tour of the @bauerhockey performance lab facilities;
- Customized pair of Bauer skates;
- Customized Bauer stick;
- Signed stick from yours truly;
- Signed Habs jersey.
What cracked me up though, is that he said the winner would have a great experience but that he himself wouldn't pay much to watch a game alongside his dad. He said that during the game, he wouldn't ask him any questions as he's probably the most intense guy in the building during the game.

Of course, he was also asked about the possibility to return to action soon and in a nutshell, he said it was just too early to talk about this and he isn't wrong. Clearly, the first thing on his mind his safety and that makes perfect sense. He did say that should the league be able to guarantee everyone's safety, of course he would want to play but right now, there's nothing concrete.

Finally, when asked about his role on the team, he has mentioned how much he likes playing at centre but he also mentioned that it's not his call where he actually plays and that he is willing to do what is asked of him. Hopefully, that wasn't just lip service because if the prospects develop well, Domi's future may very well be on the wing.

Have a good weekend everyone and hopefully, we'll know more about the NHL's plans after Monday's governors' board phone call.
