The Canadiens took off for Raleigh yesterday, but they left a man behind. Emil Heineman, who will shortly be sent back to Laval, did not make the trip since Jordan Harris is now ready to reintegrate the line-up. Harris has missed the last 15 games and hasn’t played since November 18 in Boston. It remains to be seen if he’ll get a spot on the blue line right away though, he might need to get in game shape before and it’s still very crowded back there.
The crease is also crowded as the Canadiens are still carrying three goaltenders on the roster and tonight, Cayden Primeau will be getting the start while Allen and Montembeault will be splitting the back-to-back games against the Panthers and the Lightning this weekend. Speaking of crowded creases, the Hurricanes have been having their fair share of issues in net this season with Frederik Andersen on injured reserved. Antti Raanta has been waived and sent down to the AHL before being recalled, Pyotr Kochetkov hasn’t exactly been having a great season either. Since Kochetkov played last night in Nashville, it would be fair to assume Raanta will get the call tonight.
As always when the two teams meet, Jesperi Kotkaniemi will be under the microscope. The Canadiens’ former 1st round pick had a great start to the season but has now considerably slowed down. Look for him to be suitably motivated though, he always is when he takes on the team that drafted him.
At the World Juniors Championship, the Habs prospects’ enjoyed wins last night but this morning, Lane Hutson and Jacob Fowlers (if he gets the start) will have a tougher time of it taking on Switzerland at 11,00 am ET. As for the Canadiens, the game is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET
