The feedback in the comments section from Friday’s piece regarding Brady Tkachuk was terrific and it got me thinking over the weekend about a couple of things. So today I wanted to take a further look at three left wingers that NHL teams signed to deals that benefitted both the player and the team. Which is something that needs to take place with Tkachuk as he has stated he wants to see management commit to building a cup contender.

The Chicago Blackhawks signed LW Alex Debrincat to a 3 year deal worth 19.2 million coming off his entry level contract. He just finished the first year of that deal at 6.4 million per season but upon completion of the deal he will still be a restricted free agent.

The Boston Bruins signed LW Brad Marchand to a 8 year deal worth 49 million, coming out at an average of 6.125 million per year. Marchand signed a 2 year bridge deal, then another contract for 4 years, before signing his long term contract. At the time of the Marchand signing, he was putting up similar numbers to that of Tkachuk.

The Florida Panthers signed LQ Jonathan Huberdeau to a 6 year deal worth 35.4 million, with an average of 5.9 million per year. Huberdeau signed a 2 year bridge deal before signing the long term deal and was putting up similar numbers like Brady Tkachuk.

In the Senators case, the more I look at what Ottawa should sign Tkachuk for after looking at these three deals, there is no way you can give him more than 8 years/64 million or 3 years/21 million(therefore retaining his contract rights). But as owner Eugene Melnyk insinuated a few months back, if Brady wants to be captain, then he needs to sign a long term deal.

If you were Sens GM Pierre Dorion would you entertain bringing back C Tyler Ennis on a one year deal? Ennis fit in well with head coach DJ Smith’s system and knows many of the players here from his time in 2019-2020. Ennis provides verteran experience and plays a great 200 foot game. During his time here, he moved up and down the line-up well and fit in everywhere he played. I thought I would throw this one out there to see what Sens fans thought!
