With NHL free agency less than 24 hours away, the player movement has hit overdrive today! As mentioned in this space two days ago, the Florida Panthers were actively trying to trade Anton Stralman and they were finally able to do so yesterday in moving him to Arizona. Then the Washington Capitals moved Brenden Dillon to the Winnipeg Jets as they are desperate to shed salary. I still believe Justin Schultz is in play and Ottawa is strongly looking at him. I have been told that the Ottawa Senators have called the Seattle Kraken to see the availability of Carson Soucy and Vince Dunn in the hopes of adding a top four defensemen. Soucy has two years left at 2.75 million per season while Dunn is an RFA. Ideally Ottawa wants to add a right shot defensemen but if the fit is right they will acquire a left shot defensemen on a short term deal that can play in their top four.

Talks have intensified with the Anaheim Ducks regarding the possible acquisition of center Adam Henrique. The sticking point in talks to date are how much salary the Ducks are willing to retain on the remaining three years of his deal. Ottawa would rather trade a draft pick for Henrique rather than a prospect I am told. If they have to send a prospect the other way, then maybe it’s time they move Logan Brown to the Ducks for a fresh start.

Another name the Sens are looking at now with regards to the center ice position is Pius Suter. Suter wasn’t qualified by Chicago yesterday and don’t forget Suter attended the Senators training camp three years ago. Suter is only 25 years old and Ottawa wouldn’t have to give him more than a two year deal at a low cap number too. He could fit in nicely to what Ottawa is looking to do with their younger players coming up through their system.

Other players Ottawa could target on the free agent market if they aren’t able to acquire the top six forward or top four defensemen via trade include Nick Foligno on a potential one year deal, although I see him signing with Minnesota to have the chance to play with his brother. Could Ottawa make a pitch for David Krejci? At 35 years of age, his veteran presence would be terrific on this young Sens team.

I have mentioned other names in this space over the last 5 days that Ottawa could circle back too if they miss out on some of their other targets on defense like Alex Goligoski. Can Ottawa acquire Schwartz as mentioned here a few days ago? Over the next 48-72 hours the 2021-22 Ottawa roster could really start to give Sens fans would it could look like come opening night on October 14th.

I will do my best to get up more info daily in the coming days as I balance family and my full time job! Thanks for reading.
