The NHL finally stepped in and postponed the Ottawa Senators' next 3 games but 4 days too late in my eyes!! The 3 games include a road game in NJ tomorrow night to go with home games against Nashville and the NY Rangers. With 10 players and one coach in covid protocol plus 4 players on the injured list, all long-term might I add with Colin White, Erik Brannstrom, Shane Pinto, and Clarke Bishop this move should've been made by the league after a few players were coming up false positive then being positive again hours later. Is there something wrong with the testing that the league is using?
When that scenario unfolded due to the testing, it showed that Nikita Zaitsev and Drake Batherson were allowed to be with the team again, then only to find out they couldn't be the following day. Who knows how many other players were exposed to either of them due to flawed testing? It can take up to 7 days for someone to test positive and there was no way the United States would've allowed the Sens for entry at the border tonight!
One also has to wonder if Shane Pinto rushed back on Saturday night due to how thin the roster was only to reinjure the shoulder to the point where surgery might be required! This is all on the league's front office, both Gary Bettman and Bill Daly should be held accountable by the owners for allowing this situation to get worse. It will be interesting to see if any of the teams Ottawa has played this past week start to turn up positive covid tests in the coming week. If other teams do become affected by this set of circumstances, you know the noise level will increase by media, fans, and the team's owners about the league not getting their act together. It sure sounds like the Sens front office had been asking the league for days to postpone a few games going back to Thursday night.
On another note, the St. Louis Blues have put Kyle Clifford on waivers. He's in the final year of a two-year deal that pays him 2 million this year. He only has 1A in 2GM this season, if you were Pierre Dorion would you claim him?
From Scott Wheeler at The Athletic on Twitter - I’m well into my process for the 2022 NHL prospect pool rankings and my biggest takeaway thus far is this: The Sens’ 2021 draft class was, is, and will be an unmitigated disaster. It looks worse today than it did on draft day and it looked bad then. You can read his piece at The Athletic if you are a subscriber.

The latest target for the Sens I'm told is Troy Terry of the Anaheim Ducks. Terry is 24 years of age, plays RW and Center. Scouting reports say he's a better playmaker than goal scorer but his start to this season, he's doing a little of both. In 15 games(11G,9A-20PTS) and is an RFA after the 2022-23 season. He would fit in nicely with this young nucleus and if you consider the situation the Ducks will be in, come this summer, Ottawa needs to acquire a player like this. For once, Dorion needs to overpay if he needs too as the Sens have the draft picks and prospects to pull it off. Terry's making 1.45M AAV on his current deal. This summer the Ducks have Josh Manson, Hampus Lindholm, and Rickard Rakell to re-sign. Next year both Terry and Trevor Zegras are RFA's not to mention that Mason McTavish will be an RFA the following year. The Ducks are high on Zegras and McTavish, they know they can't keep all of these guys unless a team does them a favour and takes either the contract of Jakob Silverberg or Adam Henrique off their hands, which we all know is very unlikely.
Keep an eye on RW Mikael Granlund in Nashville as well. The Preds want to re-sign Forsberg and with Granlund making 5M AAV for another 3 years, they know it'll be hard to keep Forsberg unless they can move a contract like Granlund's.
Colin White's contract is 80% covered by insurance after the 20 game mark this season, so Eugene will be saving huge dollars. It's time the Sens step up and acquire a legit top 6 forward that can grow with this team as they are lacking any high-end prospects capable of stepping into the lineup right now or even later this year. It's clear Sokolov is at least a year away from being a regular in this line-up.
Sens fans, what would you give up for Terry? Would you like to see Dorion acquire Terry? I look forward to your thoughts!
Thanks for reading.
