The Winnipeg Jets got back in the win column last night when they defeated the Nashville Predators by a score of 5-2 at the Canada Life Centre. Connor Hellebuyck recorded his milestone 300th career win. Quite the accomplishment for the soon to be 3 time Vezina Trophy winner.

1st Period:

Morgan Barron got the ice-breaker for the Jets when he scored a greasy goal from in close to give the Jets a 1-0 lead just after the 6 minute mark of the period. Only 16 seconds later, Josh Morrissey's blast off the post and in gave the Jets a 2 goal lead. Next, with only 90 seconds left in the period, Kyle Connor buried a feed from Mark Scheifele to give the Jets a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the 1st intermission.

2nd Period:

Scary moment for the Jets at the 7 minute mark of the 2nd period when Josh Morrissey fell awkwardly into the Jets net. He would head down the tunnel and not return to the game. Filip Forsberg scored on the PP with under 4 minutes left in the period to get the Predators on the scoreboard. That would be the only goal of the period.

3rd Period:

The Jets got their only PP of the game at the 8 minute mark of the final period. Gabe Vilardi made it count by tapping in a Nikolaj Ehlers shot/pass to restore the Jets 3 goal cushion. At the halfway mark of the period, Roman Josi's shot from distance banked off of Logan Stanley’s skate and into the Jets net to bring the score to 4-2. Despite a late 5 on 3 PP for the Predators, that would be as close they would get as Nino Niederrieter added an empty net goal to make the final score 5-2 for the Jets.

Some take-aways from the game:

After a lackluster performance versus the Redwings, the Jets came out firing on all cylinders in this game. If it wasn't for some good early saves by Juuse Saros, this game could have gotten really ugly for the Predators rather quickly.

Although Morrissey did not finish the game, it does not sound like his injury is serious. Coach Scott Arniel labelled Morrissey as day to day. What a huge sigh of relief that is. With Morrissey out, the remaining 5 defensemen really stepped up for the Jets. Coach Arniel was very complimentary of the Ville Heinola/Dylan Coghlan pairing in his postgame conference.

One negative aspect of the Jets performance in this game was the number of penalties they took. The Predators went 1-7 on the PP.

The Jets will now be off for a few days before they continue their home stand on Friday night against the Los Angeles Kings. The Jets should get Dylan Samberg back for this game. What a boost that will be.
