The Winnipeg Jets finished their mini 2 game road trip in Columbus last night with another convincing 6-2 victory. Eric Comrie got the start in goal for the Jets. The win came on the back of a hat trick by Nikolaj Ehlers.

First Period:

The Jets opened the scoring just after the 5 minute mark when Ehlers fired a shot from distance that beat Elvis Merzlikins cleanly. Sean Kuraly tied the game for the Blue Jackets when the Jets got hemmed in their own zone for an extended period of time. However, Ehlers restored the lead for the Jets with just under 5 minutes left in the period. The period ended with the Jets up 2-1.

Second Period:

The Jets extended their lead to 3-1 when Mason Appleton scored 3 minutes into the second period. Next with under 4 minutes left in the period, Sean Monahan tipped a Zach Werenski point shot on the PP to bring the Jackets within 1 goal. However, just 2 minutes later, Ehlers Hat Trick goal gave the Jets a 4-2 lead heading into the intermission.

Third Period:

The score would remain the same until just after the half way mark of the final period when Josh Morrissey’s blast from the point on the PP gave the Jets a 5-2 lead. Gabe Vilardi would make it 6-2 with under 5 minutes left in the game when he took a pass from Kyle Connor who made a slick dangle around the Blue Jackets defenceman.

Some takeaways from the game:

This game was the Jets second consecutive
6-2 victory on the road. Not only did they dominate on the scoreboard, they also carried the majority of the play throughout the game. They outshot the Blue Jackets 44-22.

Eric Comrie improved his record to 3-0 on the season. If he continues to give the Jets quality starts, it will bode well for Connor Hellebuyck getting plenty of rest for a deep playoff run.

The Jets PP again produced a goal. They continue to be the best PP in the league.

Their record is now 10-1 to start the season.

The Jets will now return home for a 4 game home stand. The schedule will also start to get tougher as the Tampa Bay Lightning come to town for a Sunday afternoon matinee match up.
