The Winnipeg Jets came away with a much needed 3-2 OT win in Buffalo last night. Connor Hellebuyck got the win for the Jets in net. The Jets snapped their 4 game losing streak.

1st period:

The game did not start off well for the Jets. After Vlad Namestnikov took a hooking penalty, Tage Thompson scored on the ensuing PP to put the Sabres up 1-0. However, less than a minute later, Gabe Vilardi tipped in a Hadyn Fleury point shot to tie the game at 1. This goal was challenged by the Sabres for goaltender interference as Vilardi bumped into the goaltenders glove prior to the puck going in. But, clearly the contact was made outside of the crease and the right call was made upholding the goal. The Sabres would retake the lead just after the halfway mark of the period when Dylan Cozens scored from in close to give the Sabres the 2-1 lead. That's how the first period would end.

2nd Period:

Three minutes into the 2nd period, the Jets were given a full 2 minute 5 on 3 PP as the Jets top line drew an interference and tripping penalty on the same play. Kyle Connor scored on the 2 man advantage to tie the game at 2. With 2 minutes left in the period, it looked like the Sabres took the lead for the 3rd time in the game when Tyson Kozak appeared to score his 1st NHL goal in his 1st NHL game. However, the Jets challenged for goaltender interference as a Sabres player skated into Hellebuyck crease, made contact and prevented Hellebuyck from making the save. This challenge also went in the Jets favor and the score stayed tied at 2 heading into the intermission.

Third Period:

There was no scoring in the 3rd period. Not wanting to give up any scoring chances, both teams played rather conservatively in this period. The Sabres outshot the Jets 7-3 in the period.

Overtime:

Just when it looked like the Jets would be heading to their 1st shootout of the season, Adam Lowry scored the game winning goal for the Jets when Josh Morrissey got the puck over to him after a rebound.

Some takeaways from the game:

After losing 4 in a row and 5 of their last 6 games, this was a much needed win for the Jets. Their schedule also softens up for a few games now.

The Jets are next in action tomorrow afternoon when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks.
