Another game, another 2-1 overtime win for the Winnipeg Jets. This time, over the Minnesota Wild.

Much like their last game, this game was also very tightly contested. The Jets went down early when Jake Middleton's shot from the point found its way past Connor Hellebuyck through traffic.
The Jets tying goal was a thing of beauty. With 2.9 seconds left in the 1st period, the Jets pulled Hellebuyck for the extra attacker with the face-off in the Wild zone. Adam Lowry won the ensuing draw cleanly back to Mark Scheifele who wired the puck past Filip Gustavsson to tie the game at 1 heading into the 1st intermission. It was Scheifele's 4th goal in 3 games to start the season.

Although the Jets often tilted the ice in their favor for large stretches over the next two periods, there was no more scoring in regulation. However, just prior to the end of the 3rd period, Zach Bogosian from the Wild took a holding the stick penalty to put the Jets on the PP to start overtime. Just under a minute into the overtime, Mark Scheifele got the puck across to Kyle Connor who fired a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Gustavsson to give the Jets their 2nd consecutive overtime win over a divisional rival.

The Winnipeg Jets are now 3-0 to start the season. Thus far they have played to the same identity that made them successful last regular season and won them the Jennings trophy for giving up the least number of goals during the regular season. One pleasant surprise thus far, albeit a very small sample size has been the Jets special teams. The Jets power play has produced 3 goals in 3 games. Even more impressive has been the Jets penalty kill which has yet to give up a goal.

One area where the Jets can hopefully improve on is the level of play from their 2nd line. Through 3 games, the line of Nikolaj Ehlers, Vlad Namestnikov and Cole Perfetti has yet to produce a goal. Their underlying numbers haven't been great either. With the Jets sitting at 3-0 and the other 3 lines and special teams ,playing well, I would imagine Scott Arniel will give this line plenty of time to try and get going.

The Jets are off until Friday now when they will host the San Jose Sharks who will be without injured young phenom Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini is on IR and said to be week-to-week.
