Matthews leads the National Hockey league in points and goals.

Ok now that we got that out of the way…Yeah it’s only three games in, but here is the kicker; the Leafs haven’t even played a good game yet. It’s purely been star power domination that has led to the Leafs beating both Montreal and Chicago.

Sunday night’s game was about as exciting as regular season hockey gets. It took the Leafs newly acquired superstar Johnny Tavares only three games to score his first hat trick as a Maple Leafs player.

I can’t help but love our number one pick in Auston Matthews. He’s just unbelievable. The shot Matthews has is superb, very hard and accurate, but his release is another story. Auston Matthews has one of the quickest and smoothest releases in the NHL. I predicted Tavares and Matthews would score 45 apiece and some thought that may be a stretch. So far we’re all wrong, 91 and 34 are unstoppable.

If the boys keep up this tremendous two way effort with their back checking, the goals will come. The Leafs simply have been outworked and I feel as if they have been chasing the puck too much and haven’t fully settled in yet. Babcock loves to have the puck; possession is one of his keys to success. From the faceoff to winning battles, Babs wants the Leafs to have the puck and you can bet they will be working hard to increase their puck time. Without a doubt both Tavares and Matthews have set example with their valiant two way efforts and you can be sure that will trickle down the lineup.

Mitch Marner is doing it all. He's been a stallion thus far on the power play and looks like a perfect with with Tavares. How about the penalty kill Mitch? He's everywhere! The Leafs look poised for glory.

Could Kapanen be the spark the Matthews lines needed?

We will see tonight if the chemistry carries over from Sunday’s game where it didn’t take long for the Kapanen/Matthews connection. Two shifts, two goals for the youngsters. Matthews initially fed a gorgeous pass up the middle and Kapanen in full stride grabbed the puck and made no mistake burying it over Ward’s shoulder. Kapanen has tremendous speed and that adds another element to the Matthews line.

Nylander are you getting restless?

*crickets*

The Leafs have the Dallas Stars tonight and it will be a great game, 8:30 start. Enjoy!
