Cats vs Wings

Florida looks to continue their good play tonight against the struggling Red Wings when the two teams clash in what seems like the hundredth meeting this season - with the Cats going 3-1 against the Wings thus far.

The Panthers should be flying high after battling back against the Canes: in a game where they were down, took the lead, lost the lead, and then ultimately winning it in OT. The “tougher to play against” Florida team was certainly evident on the ice Wednesday night. In past years, they may have crumbled in a game like that.

This type of mindset/play has helped propel them to first in the Central Division.

But there’s still some (which there always will be) issues. Florida struggled again at the dot, winning 40.3% to the Canes’ 59.7%. They also surrendered a PP goal, allowing Carolina to go 1/3 on the man advantage. I said it last blog and will say it again, while they allowed one less PP chance for the opponent Wednesday - they gave Tampa four opportunities in the prior game - I would like to see more disciple. Try to contain that penalty number to two this game.

On the flip side of special teams, it seems like the PP unit is struggling a bit. They went 1/4 on Wednesday, but I can’t help but feel they can really be making teams pay more often for their mistakes. Florida’s PP is one of their stronger traits throughout the years, and I would think we would all like to see them dangerous every time. There have been a lot of missed opportunities the past few games.

Look for Huby to continue his strong showings as of late. Guy was unreal in Carolina and was rewarded as the OT hero for it. He and Wennberg continue to grow their chemistry. This was too sweet:

Here is a nice preview heading into tonight:

Driedger gets the nod for a third game in a row. I can only assume at this point that he has taken over as “the man” in net.

Keeping scoring at even-strength, please.
