Game #10: Arizona Coyotes

The Panthers snapped their two-game losing streak on Sunday when they beat the rebuilding Ottawa Senators 5-3.

Florida played well as they dumped a whopping 58 shots on goal (good for a franchise record). What’s more, the Cats have 109 shots on net over two games, good enough for another franchise record. But the best part of the game was the top line of Barky, Tkachuk and Verheage joining forces to put up four goals (and ultimately nine points). It’s great to see that kind of production from your first line and I would expect it to carry over tonight when the Panthers head to Arizona to kickoff their west coast swing by taking on the 2-5-1 Coyotes.

The two big stories that seem to constantly revolve around the Yotes are their new arena and whether or not star defenseman Jacob Chychrun will be traded.

I personally think the Coyotes playing at Mullet Arena (AZ State’s rink) is awesome. For a team that struggles year-after-year in the standings and has trouble getting fans in the seats, the 5K capacity barn is a perfect environment to build a tight-knit, rowdy atmosphere.

Per the Panthers’ website:

South Florida native Shayne Gostisbehere leads Arizona and ranks third among NHL defensemen with four goals. Gostisbehere is also tied with Clayton Keller for the team's scoring lead with eight points, while five other players on the roster have posted five points. Ranking 31st in the NHL on defense with an average of 4.38 goals allowed per game, the Coyotes have been utilizing both Connor Ingram and Karel Vejmelka between the pipes. While each netminder has one win, neither has a save percentage over .900. For the Panthers, look for Matthew Tkachuk to do some damage in the desert. First on the team in goals (5), assists (8) and points (13), he's produced a whopping 21 points in 17 career games against the Coyotes.“

The west coast swing is always toughest on the Florida fan base, as each tilt has the start time of a beer league game. So instead of grabbing a cold one, you might want to snag a coffee instead…
