Brock Boeser Opens Up About Possible Trade |

Leading up to the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, Brock Boeser was one of the most-talked-about trade targets in the rumor mill. This was entirely understandable, as the Vancouver Canucks gave his agent permission to speak with other teams to seek a trade back in December.
Although Boeser generated interest as we inched closer to deadline day, a move did not come to fruition, and he of course finished the year as a Canuck because of it. An understandable obstacle in trade talks was Boeser's hefty $6.65 million cap hit until the end of the 2024-25 season. Yet, a trade may be easier to complete during the summer, as teams will have more cap space available due to expiring contracts. However, if Boeser has it his way, he will remain in Vancouver.
While speaking with The Athletic's Thomas Drance, Boeser said "To be completely honest with you, I don't want to be traded." Boeser also recently told reporters that not being traded was "kind of a blessing in disguise."
This is a pretty big development, as it shows that Boeser is more than happy with the idea of remaining with the Canucks. The 2015 first-round pick also may have helped his chances of staying put, as he picked up his game immensely as the year rolled on. After a slow start to the year, he finished the season with 18 goals and set a new career-high with 37 assists in 74 games. With that, his 55 points were just one point behind his career-high 56 points during the 2018-19 season.
The Canucks are heading into the offseason with the primary goal of freeing up cap space. Moving Boeser's expensive contract would certainly help them achieve that, but should the Canucks contemplate keeping him after his comments and his improved play down the stretch? Or should they strike while his value is heightened and trade him?
