NHL clubs face a deadline for European prospects drafted in 2020 with a four-year exclusive signing window or players selected from CHL clubs at the 2022 NHL Draft on Saturday at 5pm. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected five players in Montreal, three (Fraser Minten, Dennis Hildeby, and Nikita Grebyonkin) have already been signed to entry-level contracts, third-round pick Nick Moldenhauer just completed his freshman season at the University of Michigan, giving them some time before they have to sign him to an ELC.
The Leafs have until Saturday to get 2022 seventh-round pick Brandon Lisowsky signed or the 20-year-old will be eligible to re-enter the NHL Draft next month in Las Vegas.
The 20-year-old winger is only 5’9”, 179 lb., but has plenty of skill, and performed well at Leafs training camps since being drafted. After scoring 38 goals and 71 points last season, Lisowsky scored a career-high 42 goals for the Blades in 68 games, and 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) in 16 WHL playoff games this season.
Brandon Lisowsky (No. 8) scored twice on Wednesday, including the OT winner.
He reached the 40-goal mark for the first time in his WHL career with the effort. 3 straight multi-point games for him.
In other Leafs prospect news, 2023 top pick Easton Cowan added to his already impressive season, scoring two goals and an assist (including the game-winner) in the London Knights 4-2 win over Saginaw at the 2024 Memorial Cup on Wednesday.
