Ek's note: We are excited to welcome Naftali Clinton to our staff as our Arizona Coyotes writer for this season. We look forward to his work!
According to Shawn Simpson of TSN 1200, Logan Brown could be on his way to Arizona if things don't work out in Ottawa.
If things don't work out for Logan Brown in Ottawa. Have to think Arizona grabs him off of waivers. He spent the summer there and is tight with Keller and Chychryn.
Logan Brown is a former 11th overall pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2016. He was widely regarded as one of the most skilled players coming out of the 2016 draft. However, things haven't worked out quite as planned in Canada's capital as he only has 30 NHL games under his belt in five years since being drafted.
The Senators signed the 23-year-old centre to a one-year $750,000 contract as a prove-it deal. It was rumoured that Brown wished to be traded to another team, but possibly because of lack of demand or the offers simply weren't enough, Ottawa did not trade him.
At 6'6" and 218 lbs, on paper Brown has the size and skill to compete in the NHL. Unfortunately, he has gotten injured virtually every year going back to junior. Brown had great AHL campaigns in 2018-19 and 2019-20, but it wasn't enough to earn him a permanent spot on the Senators roster.
With centres Josh Norris, Colin White, Chris Tierney, Shane Pinto and others potentially ahead of Logan Brown on the Sens depth chart, it's hard to imagine a scenario where Brown gets ample playing time.
That's where Arizona comes in. The Coyotes famously stripped down their roster to the bare minimum this year, leaving plenty of spots open for newcomers and young players. This could be a great opportunity for Brown if his career in Ottawa ends sourly.
