While I tweeted today about having nothing more to add about hockey the Lindholm deal made me think about a few things. For the Jets the next arbitration hearing is Jacob Trouba on Friday. After that it's Lowry. I've included Morrissey simply because he's one of the key deals that has to be signed but not arbitration eligible.

Predictions

Morrissey gets a two year bridge deal and earns an AAV of 3.1 million.

Trouba and Lowry are a bit more difficult simply because the stakes are higher and they have more leverage than Morrissey.

Trouba's deal, should they agree on one, is likely going to be long 6-8 years in length unless the player has a different strategy and wants less time in case the Jets are not the best option for him. In that case I could see a four of five year deal at a different AAV but I think that is less likely.

I see Trouba going for 6 years leaving him at age 30 and one last chance to really cash in again if his career stays on it's current trajectory. 6 years by 5.65 million for 33.9 million the longer the closer that number of AAV moves to 6 million.

If he and his agent Kurt Overhardt decide to go shorter I could see 4 years at 4.9 million or around 20 million.

In Lowry's case, at age 25, he could be looking for security and long term security but it's hard to imagine him being a 6 year deal but that could happen. In reality I could see a 5 year deal and an AAV around 2.7 million. Lowry's worth may be a wide range across the NHL but he's likely worth more to the Jets simply because of his role and usage and that it might be hard to find a replacement. 2.7 might be high but i'd suggest that there's a team who would pay him around that for a shorter term The Jets might have to pay that over five years to ensure they have him for that time and he would be 30 when it finishes.

The clock is ticking on Trouba and Lowry and I expect to hear news by Thursday on one of them. Right when I go away.

Enjoy the waiting.
