The Trois-Rivieres Lions hosted the Adirondack Thunder (New Jersey Devils) for a triple header starting on Wednesday, concluding a series of seven consecutive games between the two teams.
The Lions opened the scoring late in the first period as Kirby Proctor accepted a pass from Nicolas Guay and beat the goalie with a shot from the faceoff dot. Xavier Cormier doubled the lead early in the second with a shot through traffic. Anthony Beauregard added to the lead with a slap shot during a power play. Tyler Holland put the game out of reach with a shot from the faceoff dot for a power play goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.
The Devils affiliate held a 2-0 lead late into the third period when the Lions pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. The strategy paid off as Israel Mianscum found Justin Ducharme in the slot for a goal to cut the deficit. The Thunder ended Trois-Rivieres’ hopes for the tying goal as they added an empty net goal before the final buzzer.
The captain put his team on the board early into the contest during a power play as Morgan Adams-Moisan redirected Brycen Martin’s point shot across the goal line. A penalty against Chris Jandric as the Thunder capitalized on the man advantage before the first intermission. Early into the second, Jakov Novak reached the 20-goal mark as he drove to the net and beat the goalie with a shot from the faceoff dot. Adirondack cancelled the lead before the second intermission and both teams picked up a point as there was not any more scoring before the end of regulation. In overtime, Tommy Cormier found Chris Jandric in the slot and he buried it to win the game for the home team.
