Brandon Tanev gone, but are Penguins looking for more overpriced depth?

The Seattle Kraken have officially taken Brandon Tanev as their selection for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Facebook comment section is for sure angry, but this is definitely a situation the Penguins can work around. Tanev had two good seasons with the Penguins, but if you told me I could have him for two years at 3.5M or six years you go with the two every single time (and perhaps not even the two at 3.5M). They got out of a long term high priced fourth line contract. This is a good thing overall. Not only that they didn’t have to give Seattle anything extra.

The Penguins still have a Teddy Blueger Zach Aston-Reese duo if they want. They could re-sign Freddy Gaudreau and there’s your fourth line all for about 1.5M more than what one Brandon Tanev costs. See that wasn’t so bad to overcome.

However, we aren’t out of the woods yet!

Uh oh, is that Brian Burke’s music I hear?
