Finding a new goalie: Pekka Rinne |

On the surface there is a very interesting name hitting unrestricted free agency this offseason. He is a former Vezina Trophy winner and a finalist for the award four times. He has a career save percentage of .917. He is the most recent recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. He is Pekka Rinne.
Rinne has had a very productive career and has been in the league for 15 seasons. Unfortunately, part of the problem is he has been in the league for 15 seasons. He is coming off of a two-year 10M contract where he showed every bit of his age. The past two seasons he has gone .895 and .907. Let’s just take a look at his most recent body of work
Ok so this should be pretty much a non-starter for any team. You would have to have a ton of faith something very specific was holding Rinne back from performing better and you would have to know what that very specific thing was. Personally, I’m going with age and that one isn’t getting fixed.
Even on a cheap deal this isn’t a risk worth taking when you consider all the other options out on the market.
