Looking like the Penguins will not be in the Central Division |

We have some hockey news to digest today. Remember when I shared the information about the potential division the Penguins were playing in? Yeah, it doesn’t look like the Penguins are going to have it that easy after all. Initial reports had the Penguins playing in the Central Division. A division I thought was favorable to the Penguins. Here is a reminder on what that looked like:
Central: Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning
Not too bad.
More recent reports have the Penguins going back with a lot of familiar faces.
I personally think this new alignment is tougher than the former one discussed. Tampa Bay was the only clear cut team above the Penguins in the other one. Both St. Louis and Nashville are on the decline so it wasn’t so bad to be lumped in with them. In the new setup the Penguins have their divisional rivals and added the Boston Bruins. This potential change is going to make things a little more difficult.
To be honest I was looking forward to a different division with teams the Penguins usually don’t go up against a lot just from a curiosity standpoint. Now it is just more of the same with Boston and Buffalo.
Nothing is official yet. This has yet to be voted on, but Pierre Lebrun has good sources.
