Penguins don't need to Murray about making goaltender trade anymore

Matt Murray is no longer a Pittsburgh Penguin. He will remain a two-time Stanley Cup winning goaltender. He should be remembered fondly by Penguins fans.

This is a good deal. Not sure what the Penguins are going to do with a football coach, but they clear cap space none the less.

I was fine getting a 7th round pick so getting a 2nd is obviously much better. The value in moving Murray was to get him off the books. They’ve done that and the Penguins will move into the second round of the draft at pick number 52.

The key moving forward will be how the team uses their cap space. I personally think the focus should be on the third line and turning it into a scoring line. The third line as currently constructed is just not good enough to be considered a Cup contender.

If the Penguins were to move forward right now with Jarry and DeSmith it would be fine. It isn’t the most ideal situation because neither player has a large sample of NHL success, but they combine for a cap hit that is smaller than most teams pay one goalie and I am a fan of saving money at the goaltender position.

Let's see where things go from here.
