New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins on the road 6-1 and it was impressive.
Finally, the Devils get a solid goaltending performance and it came from rookie Nico Daws as he made 37 saves while getting scoring support from his teammates with their six goal explosion. The Devils got multiple point game performances from Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes, and Jesper Bratt.
“Obviously anytime the team scores as much as we did makes it easier for the goalie. I thought we all did a great job tonight,” said Daws.
However, the second period had been a struggle for the Devils all season long but Daws stood tall and denied the Penguins threat with some key saves. The Devils were not going to allow the Penguins to comeback like how the Tampa Bay Lightning did in their previous game with five unanswered goals while having a 3-1 lead. New Jersey took control of the game and finished strong to the end of the third period.
Dougie Hamilton played for the first time after being sidelined with a jaw injury. He played nearly 20 mins and had five shots on goal. He was involved early as the Devils kept feeding him the puck and it is good to see him getting involved offensively. The Devils definitely felt his presence last night.
Devils are in Chicago to play the Chicago Blackhawks tonight.
Big question: Would you play Nico Daws again on consecutive nights?
