Devils Re-Sign Goaltender Scott Wedgewood To A Two-Way Contract |

The New Jersey Devils Devils re-signed goaltender Scott Wedgewood to a one year, two way contract. Wedgewood recorded a 3-8-3 record with a .900 save percentage and two shutouts last season. He became one of the Devils merry-go-around carousel backup goaltenders to Mackenzie Blackwood after Corey Crawford suddenly retired before the 2021 NHL season started.
My Take: This is a no brainer move by Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald as Wedgewood held down the fort and filled in admirably when the team was struggling defensively and had to endure a Covid outbreak that basically affected most of the team. He definitely deserved another contract.
This contract is at low risk and two way. I expect Fitzgerald to go after a veteran goaltender again to fill that gap like he did last season with Crawford. Unfortunately, it did not work out the way the Devils wanted. Blackwood started the season in stellar fashion before being sidelined with Covid.
What’s Your Take? Which veteran goaltender should Fitzgerald sign in free agency to play along side Mackenzie Blackwood?
