Speed, speed, speed!

There was plenty of it last night at the Prudential Center when the New Jersey Devils beat the improving Montreal Canadiens in a shootout.

Jack Hughes had two goals in the game along with a crucial shootout goal when the Devils needed it the most. But it was Yegor Sharangovich that scored in the seventh round and Nico Daws finishing off the Habs by saving Paul Byron’s shot to win the game.

WOO NOTES

1. Jesper Bratt extended his point streak to seven games with his one assist.

2. Miles Wood was fast, physical and aggressive and felt fine after colliding into the boards in the 2nd period. Good to see his hip holding up well.

3. The Devils blew a 2-1 lead again late in the third period. This has been a habitual problem all season long and the team is fortunate to get the win in the shootout. Credit Montreal for their relentless play and fighting hard till the end.

4. Dougie Hamilton’s interference penalty early in the third period was undisciplined and not necessary. Devils killed off the penalty but that could have changed the momentum of the game.

Prospect Signed

Brian Halonen, who played at Michigan Tech, has signed a two-year, two-way entry-level deal with the New Jersey Devils. The 6’0” forward was a Hobey Baker finalist this year.

Miles Wood’s season debut was a bit hit
