New Jersey Devils have re-signed forward Michael McLeod to a two year deal. Also re-signing is Colton White to a one year, two-way deal as well.
Woo’s Take:
In my mind, Michael McLeod took big strides last season and really improved his overall individual game. The BMW line was very effective and gave the team energy when needed. One would hope that this dynamic trio can survive the Seattle expansion draft and continue their progress as being a physical, speedy, and in your face presence on the ice.
McLeod will be called upon to take more important face offs and this is the department the Devils need to get better as a team. Travis Zajac was the guy that took the important face offs in the defensive zone for many years. With him gone, it is up to McLeod and Nico Hischier to put their team in better position to win. Too many times last season, the Devils would lose multiple draws in a row in their own zone which would eventually led to a momentum changing goal for the opposition. Hopefully, McLeod can help change this trend.
Colton White will have some competition to crack the Devils lineup. Kid has potential and is a smart hockey player. If he can have a good camp and suddenly there are openings on defense with the big club, he may get another shot on showing what he can do. Here’s hoping he’ll have a breakout year.
