New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier is having a magical season so far! Hischier had two goals, including the game winning power play goal in overtime to give his team a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
Thoughts
1. Nico Hischier is proving that he can lead his team into victory. He has been “Mr. Clutch” and scored his third game winning goal of the season last night. Hischier is finally healthy and showing what he can do. He has eight goals and eight assists through 13 games.
2. Tomas Tatar’s goal to get the Devils on the board was a hardworking one. He and his linemates were relentless to the puck which led the Senators to eventually turn the puck over before Tatar cashed in with the game’s first goal.
3. Vitek Vanecek came out of the game “out of abundance of caution”. Devils head coach Lindy Ruff said it was a group decision and did not seem worried.
4. Akira Schmid gave the Devils some instant goaltending. He had multiple point blank saves when the Devils were on a 4 on 3 penalty kill and was spectacular. All this after coming off the bench cold to replace Vanecek in a 3-3 tied game in the middle of the 3rd period. Schmid gets his first NHL win of his career.
