What I’d Like The Devils To Accomplish In The Next 32 Games |

New Jersey Devils are back in action tonight on the road and will play the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow on back to back nights. The Devils will get a boost with some healthy bodies coming back to the lineup. Dougie Hamilton, Jesper Bratt, and Andreas Johnsson are ready to go as the Devils will look to finish the season strong.
1. Be Consistent
It has been a rollercoaster of a ride this season. At times, the Devils have so inconsistent that they looked like a different team in different periods within a game. For example, their last game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Devils played brilliantly and started the game with a 3-1 lead. But they quickly unraveled and the Lightning scored five unanswered goals to win 6-3. At times, you don’t know which Devils team will show up to a game which has frustrated their fans.
2. Build Confidence
We’ve seen stretches of winning hockey, such as the first 15 games to start the season and several games after the prolonged Christmas break when Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald declared a reset. Unfortunately, we’ve seen long stretches of multiple losing streaks and the team unable to stop the bleeding. The Devils are not making the playoffs and fans should not be focusing on the draft. It is more important to have that winning mindset confidence to end the season to build on for next season than getting a higher draft pick. When the Devils are confident and not down on themselves, they are a dangerous team.
3. Special Teams Continuing To Improve
What a remarkable comeback so far in the year 2022 with the Devils special teams after a dreadful 2021. The Devils need to continue to improve especially giving up short handed chances while on the power play. Damon Severson stepped up when Dougie Hamilton went down with a bad jaw injury. Now they will have both back for both power play units.
